[Quran, Surah Saad 38:35] This was the dua of Prophet Sulaiman  who started his dua by seeking forgiveness from Allah first then asking for his request	And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers
He told me to say, "Allahumma inni zalumtu nafsi zulman kathiran, Wala yaghfiru dh-dhunuba illa anta, fa ghfir li maghfiratan minindika, wa r-hamni, innaka anta l-ghafuru r-rahim O Allah! O Allah, beautify us with the adornment of faith and make us of those who guide and are rightly guided	Al-Ghafoor is the One Who forgives, regardless of how large the sin is, and He forgives repeatedly! O Originator of the heavens and the Earth, O Possessor of majesty and honour, O Ever Living, O Self-Subsisting and Supporter of all, verily I ask You for Paradise and I take refuge with You from the Fire

Dua 23 اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْمًا كَثِيرًا وَلاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَغْفِرَةً مِنْ عِنْدِكَ، وَارْحَمْنِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ ‏ (Allah Humma Series)

Indeed, You are the Bestower.

متى يُقال: إني ظلمتُ نفسي ظلمًا: When we seek forgiveness from Allah, not only the doors of His Mercy are opened but many other said and unsaid duas are granted
متى يُقال: إني ظلمتُ نفسي ظلمًا: O Allah, I take refuge in You from sin and debt
الدرر السنية: Yunus  prayed to Allah  this dua when he was in the belly of the whale as he recognised the mistake he had made
